THANK YOU for the entirety of this post, but especially being honest about how much energy you put into judging yourself and others on social media. So relatable. I've become an Instagram turtle, poking my head out every few weeks to "play" in the digital realm with everyone else, until remember how gross and compulsively self obsessed it makes me feel-- and then I disappear again. So much admiration that you just threw the whole thing into the sea. Glad to connect with you here. May Substack continue to be a more benevolent creature to us all.
Thank you for this. I not only resonate with the entire to half of your post (basically everything about leaving social media) but I FEEL the words speaking to me. Confirming my choice to completely shut down my IG accounts. Yesterday I started the process of downloading data so I could collect all my media before deleting the accounts.
Amazing! Please check back in and tell me how it goes. I had this thought: If even 20% less people had social media, companies like Meta, X, etc would have so much less power over us and the economy. It's a pipe dream but I will keep dreaming it!
Last remaining time suck is Instagram and I don’t even find it interesting anymore. So I’m going to try to let it go. (A quirky older book if essays I love love love is The Primary Colors by Alexander Theroux.)
Oooh! More color books — yay! And YES, isn't that weird? I found none of my social media interesting. Zero. In fact, it was quite boring but I felt like I needed to be on there to be part of "the conversation." I think we almost become convinced that we're not human if we're not online.

Thank you for reading, Adreanna <3 I love Substack for giving us a chance to reconnect. One example of social media doing some GOOD!

In the words of Rev. Jesse Jackson, let’s keep hope alive! 😆
Love how you detailed the way social media sucks people in. I love even more the way you wrote about the benefits of escaping it.
Thanks, Linda! I'm so lucky that Noah isn't super into social media. He quit with me! <3
Quite brilliant. I am on the same train! Ah...now I see Nikki also said brilliant :) I will add love it!
YOU are brilliant ;) <3
